so, my blog name is about to get a lot more confusing (for those of you who got it in the first place). josh and i are packing up our little life and our fluffy cat and moving. we are not trading up our small apartment in the city for a nice married home with a yard in the ‘burbs. we are moving to seattle. we are moving to seattle the same summer we are getting married. are we ready? no. are we crazy? probably. are we over the moon excited? absolutely.

last weekend, we went on a whirlwind, “find an apartment in 24 hours” trip and as we began our descent into our new city, our new home, for the first time i became overcome with gratitude. i was thankful for this journey. thankful for the man sitting next to me (don’t worry - it was Josh). thankful for our amazingly supportive family and friends. thankful for my mom.

my mom will be the first to admit that it took some time for her to come around to the idea of us moving across the country. she was sad. she was confused. she reacted the way any good mother should react. what i haven’t had the heart to tell her yet, is that this is sort of her fault.

she is the one who spent the better part of her adult life empowering my sister and i to keep growing. to keep dreaming. she is the one who taught us that creativity should be held in the same esteem as logic and that the only real critic who matters is yourself. she taught my sister and i that living is more important than earning and that when we fail, we should fail forward. she taught us the immeasurable value of culture and the importance of being curious.

so, really, this is kind of her fault. and i can’t thank her enough for that.

The Minnesota House will hold a final floor vote Thursday afternoon on a measure to legalize same-sex marriage, after weeks of behind-the-scenes lobbying at the Capitol

The fact that marriage equality is within grasp in our state and that it could happen in the same month as our wedding makes me infinitely happy. Let’s do this, MN.

Chris Kluwe is no longer a Minnesota Viking, which makes me sad on multiple levels. He may not be the best punter in the league, but he is certainly one of the best human beings.

That said, I plan to fill the void of not having him in purple and gold by reading his spectacularly titled upcoming release, “Beautifully Unique Sparkleponies”.
